Following the current COVID-19 situation, our First Anniversary Celebration SORANO HOTEL Jazz Night scheduled for June 5, 2021 will be postponed until this autumn on October 9 (Saturday). 

In June 2021, the SORANO HOTEL celebrates its first anniversary. Although our journey began in a sea of uncertainty under coronavirus skies, we bring you “First Anniversary Celebration SORANO HOTEL Jazz Night” to liven up your experience as we reach our first milestone.
Enjoy an evening of live jazz entertainment as we invite two prominent musicians – TOKU and Hajime Mizoguchi – on stage. Home historically to a military base, the city of Tachikawa has close ties with jazz, so this opportunity to enjoy superb, genuine jazz perfectly suits a SORANO HOTEL anniversary. 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Hi-Fi Sound Bar featuring a high-fidelity Technics audio set opens at the SORANO ROOFTOP BAR. Experience music with high-performance audio.
*The bar is open until 1:00 a.m. as usual (but hours may be shortened to implement infection control measures)
6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Enjoy our special anniversary course at DAICHINO RESTAURANT or the SORANO ROOFTOP BAR.

Musician Profiles

TOKU The only vocalist and flugelhorn player in Japan

Influenced by his father, became familiar with music without favoring a particular genre and was introduced to the cornet in his junior high school brass band Debuted in 2000 with SME Records with his album Everything She Said; gained attention from his debut for his music style and sense as a vocalist and flugelhorn player and appeared in Blue Note Tokyo as early as August the same year, joining the ranks of Japan’s top jazz scene; also performs overseas, releasing his album around Asia; continues to release CDs regularly and perform in jazz festivals across Japan and tours in Japan and abroad, establishing himself as the top young jazz artist in popularity and ability; gained attention after participating in Cyndi Lauper’s Japan Tour right after the March 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake; in October 2015, released a Frank Sinatra cover album to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Frank Sinatra’s birth, receiving great acclaim far and wide for its high level; in June 2017, released his album SHAKE with his aspiration to develop ties across genres by exchanging with various artists, a quality unique to TOKU; with a wide musical range that reaches beyond jazz, has established his position as a “Hometown: Jazz, Address: Unspecified” artist, participating as a songwriter and musician in albums with artists including m-flo, Ken Hirai, Skoop On Somebody, Miki Imai, Maki Ohguro, and Chikuzen Sato; in recent years has been actively engaged overseas, performing in live performances and events with various music and artists in France, the UK, and other parts of Europe, New York and other areas of the United States, and Asian countries In February 2019, released his CD Original Songbook, a collection of his best original music; in 2020, recorded his long-awaited CD in France – TOKU in Paris – pre-released in France and released in Japan in April as his activities continue to broaden domestically and globally

Hajime Mizoguchi  

Hajime Mizoguchi Cellist/Composer/Producer

After watching conductor Herbert von Karajan on television, started playing the piano at age 3 and the cello at age 11
Graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts; after getting whiplash in a self-inflicted automobile accident at age 23, began composing “music for sleep” on the synthesizer to alleviate the suffering; debuted with Sony in 1986 after accumulating private solo compositions; active in a wide range of genres including classical, pop, and rock; the theme song for the TV program See the World by Train (Sekai no Shaso kara) is extremely well-known; performed with Ron Carter in recent years
Positions his own music as an awakening of the mind as the beauty of cello and the sounds filled with hospitality continue to fascinate many people across genres and establish a unique stance in the music scene
